There are builds posted for PvE smiters. Also there are builds in the farming forum too.

There is also one specifically for the Shards Of Orr dungeon I think in the Eyes To The North Forum.

[skill]Auspicious Incantation[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Aura[/skill][skill]Ray of Judgment[/skill][skill]Spear of Light[/skill][skill]Smite Hex[/skill][Smite Condition][skill]Reversal of Damage[/skill][skill]Power Drain[/skill]

Smiting Prayers: 12 + 1 + 1
Inspiration Magic: 10
Divine Favor: 8 + 1

I got a lot of fun out of that when I started my Smiting-only Monk.

>.>

It's basically a very unsubtle Smiting damage build which performs "ok". I liked to take a warrior hero or hench so I had someone to cast Balthazar's Aura on...so it was like mobile AoE. It was good enough to mean I could deal "ok" damage whilst playing alone with Hench/Heroes. I don't like playing Hybrid monk when I'm playing with H/H...I find it trickier to call targets when I play a more supportive roll.

Edit the build to suit your requirements I guess. Ray of Judgment has a long recharge so [wiki]Word of Censure[/wiki] may be more to your liking.

[skill]Bane Signet[/skill][skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill][skill]Signet of Rage[/skill][skill]Mantra of Inscriptions[/skill][skill]Banish[/skill][skill]Ether Feast[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
Signet Smiter: 12 Smiting Prayers 12 Inspiration Magic

Bring Mantra of Inscriptions + all Attack Signets in the smite line, Attack using Smite Signets while Mantra of Inscriptions cuts their recharge by 45%. Alternatively Either Feast can be added as a self heal if needed especially in PvP as well as Purge Signet because your not as energy intensive using this build. Banish is a cheap spell I personally use but that and res signet can be substituted for other skills to your preference.

Edit: wanted to add my favorite Smite Combo if you want to do AoE dmg

[skill]Arcane Echo[/skill] + [skill]Ray of Judgment[/skill]

Works best on Undead and really well against Minion Masters in Alliance Battle.

With that signet monk, would you be better off using a -2/Stance shield instead of a focus item along with a 20/20 smiting wand?

I'm not sure about the use of Restful Breeze.... sure it gives you +10 health regen but if you attack or use one of your skills it cancels restful breeze out. You also have to wait and pause your attack until you've regained a sufficient amount of health before you can go back into battle. Ether Feast at 12 inspiration magic is more of a direct heal that gives you instant 134HP and you can go right back to using your skills or attacking.

In the end I don't think it matters just go with the self heal of your preference as long as you don't divert any skill points away from smiting or inspiration magic it should be fine.

In the Equipment side of things yes a Shield that gives you -2 while in stance would be an asset as you won't be relying on energy too much, but I'm not sure about the 20/20 Wand because 20/20 only effect spell cast/recharge and your going to be using signets instead.

I would instead bring a wand that does 15>50 in that case.... a Shield (either 5/30HP, or 2Stance/45) or maybe a Smiting Focus with +1 to Smiting Prayers, and +30HP Health.

The problem with Ether Feast, is it can occasionaly give you less than max health, if you manage to target someone with less than 3 energy (which can happen).

Its possible but very rarely. You can of course make sure you got a good "donkey" to ride off of so you limit this problem like Warriors who don't use much energy, or Elementalists that have huge energy reserves.

Restful Breeze is alright I didn't say I hate it and as long as your not taking away Skill points from Smite and Inspiration your fine, but you do have to realize the disadvantage. Which is you can't do anything while your waiting for Restful Breeze to Heal you. I use Ether Feast because since I already have 12 in Inspiration Magic I may as well utilize the Mesmer's Primary heal to help me out. It maybe a "meh" heal, and it certainly isn't no Word of Healing, but I don't have to wait around doing nothing, and the health gained is instant.

If you want to fight degen with this build use [skill]Purge Signet[/skill]
which removes everything hexes and conditions that cause the degen, You don't need the energy to use your signets or attack anyway.

A Problem I see with a lot of smiter monks is that they try to be both Damage Dealer and Healer. They try to do damage while at the same time try to keep their own health up by themselves. As a result they spread their skills too much they don't do enough damage and they can't sufficiently keep themselves alive.

Normally a monk's primary job is Heal and/or Protect the party. Their job is the keep the party alive with their spells and let the other players take out the enemy. So your points usually go to heal/protect/and Divine Favor and its usually no problem keeping yourself alive because you can heal yourself.

HOWEVER if your going to start smiting and doing Direct Damage, your changing your role from Healer to Damage Dealer. Just like Warriors, Elementalists, and other Attack Classes they maximize their Damage Potential, so the rely on Monks as their primary source of healing and survival. Just like those classes Smiters should maximize your attack potential which means bringing damage skills, (either Spells/Signets/Both). Maximize your Smiting Prayers and putting the left over skill points into other areas that will help boost your damage (in the case of the Signet Smiter build its Inspiration Magic).

Just like other damage dealers Smiters must give up the ability to keep themselves alive. This means your going to have to rely on another monk to keep your alive which even I find kind of strange and awkward since your usually used to healing yourself rather then relying on another to make your red bar go up.

(Note: Smiter's Boon build is an exception to this because the damage that comes from that build is indirect and is usually just a side effect if your cast target happens to be near enemies)

I know that you should never try to dmg and heal. been smiting as a monk for nearly 2 years now.

i just never have found that to be worth it, it is fun in low pvp and low areas to drop mantra and go all smiting with signets and holy wrath. that is always a kick.
with good monks healing/protting people
ether feast is a waste of a slot, not that my fix was any better. could replace it with leech signet though or something else that is a funny interupt.

First of all let me say once again... "I SEE NO PROBLEM WITH YOU USING RESTFUL BREEZE!" If you want to use Restful Breeze go ahead and use it, the self heal in PvE doesn't really matter. As long as you still have 12 in Smite and Inspiration I don't really care.

Sorry about the text wall but I felt it was relevant to mention that because its something I kinda see with many smite monks that they try to be damage and be a healer at the same time, and this healing discussion thats going on might result in people that will think adding Healing Breeze, or Healing Hands to the build is a bright idea.

But yeah I use Ether Feast because its just easier for me to use and go back into attacking right afterwards, especially if you plan to use this in PvP where you'll be under constant attack. Outside of PvE battle I just rely on another monk to heal me instead.

Edit:
Oh and I would like to add that you shouldn't drop Mantra of Inscriptions for this build, Mantra is the Key this build as it allows you to use your signets more frequently.

Without it your Signets all have 20 second recharges compare that to the 11 Seconds with Mantra on. Your going to find yourself doing a lot more wanding and a lot less damage if you decide to leave Mantra in favor of something else.

This is what I've been running on my smite bars lately, and since it's PvE...

Mo/N
[skill]necrosis[/skill] [skill]technobabble[/skill] [skill]Pain Inverter[/skill] [skill]Castigation Signet[/skill] [skill]Smite[/skill] [skill]Spear Of Light[/skill] [skill]Ray of Judgment[/skill] resurrect skill

Mo/
[skill]Zealot's Fire[/skill] [skill]Smite Hex[/skill] [skill]Smite Condition[/skill] [skill]Shield of Judgment[/skill] [skill]Reversal of Damage[/skill] [skill]Judge's Intervention[/skill] [skill]Judge's Insight[/skill] resurrect skill

Mo/Me
[skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill] [skill]Bane Signet[/skill] [skill]Holy Strike[/skill] [skill]Stonesoul Strike[/skill] [skill]Castigation Signet[/skill] [skill]Mantra of Inscriptions[/skill] [skill]Balthazar's Aura[/skill] resurrect skill

Honestly, it's for the lols. I don't take a resurrect half the time because my heros can do that. My monk is my primary and just healing and protting is dumb when I'm by myself or with a few guildies.

Disclaimer: If you (reader) are one of those Guild Wars is serious business types, you can go troll someone else's post because I don't care.

I've been getting a kick out of support smiting for a dervish since the buff to RoD.
[skill]air of enchantment[/skill][skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]reversal of damage[/skill][skill]zealots fire[/skill][skill]auspicious incantation[/skill][skill]balthazar's aura[/skill](can fill the last two spots with w/e. Smiter's boon, smite condition, smite hex, judge's intervention and hard rez are all good options.)
I'll have to ask my friend for his dervish build, but this smiter pretty much gave him unlimited energy and made him near invincible.
with a dual 10/10 set, you're pretty much hammering RoF and RoD as fast as you can, and the damage is just insane (not in HM ofc, higher level enemies reduce the effectiveness of Zealot's Fire's fire damage)

The ones that were used in march monthly:

[build prof=Me/Mo name="SpNv" Fas=8 Ins=9 Dom=9 Smi=10][Signet of Distraction][Signet of Judgment][Bane Signet][Lyssas Balance][Shame][Judges Insight][Mantra of Inscriptions][Resurrection Signet][/build]
[build prof=Mo/Me name="As" Smi=12 Ins=12 Dom=3][Cry of Frustration][Signet of Judgment][Ether Signet][Balthazars Aura][Judges Insight][Strength of Honor][Mantra of Inscriptions][Resurrection Signet][/build]
[build prof=Mo/Me name="Me" Div=10 Smi=12 Ins=8][Reversal of Damage][Signet of Judgment][Smite Condition][Smite Hex][Judges Insight][Smiters Boon][Mantra of Inscriptions][Resurrection Signet][/build]

some build I run:
[build prof=Mo/Me name="Mo/Me" Div=6+1 Smi=12+2 Ins=11][Signet of Humility][Signet of Judgment][Bane Signet][Leech Signet][Reversal of Damage][Strength of Honor][Mantra of Inscriptions][Resurrection Signet][/build]

Me/Mo or Mo/Me doesn't make a real difference

Thumbs up

I am glad to see at least some ppl (marverick) know how to attack with a monk without being useless. This is my version of the norn/sin build on monk:

[skill]Castigation Signet[/skill][skill]Bane Signet[/skill][skill]Assassin's Promise[/skill][skill]Shadow Fang[/skill][skill]Iron Palm[/skill][skill]Holy Strike[/skill][skill]"You Move Like a Dwarf!"[/skill][skill]"Finish Him!"[/skill]

Combo 1: (1-8): Damage 531 DPS 68, ranged,
Combo 2: (12 3 78): Damage 368 DPS 72, melee
Combo 3: (3 78): Damage 255 DPS ~100-150, ranged

Start the battle with combo2 (safe!), then use combo1 (enemies are at full HP so you need max damage to score a kill and trigger AP). As the battle continues use combo 2 and 3 (they have less damage but higher DPS and they don't strain your energy).

Tips:
-use SF defensively (teleport away from melee),
-use SF to cover AP,
-YMLD is a great interrupt,
-chain your knockdowns (especially against monks and melee)

While i mainly agree with most of your points, i would say that:
[skill]Smiter's Boon[/skill][skill Divine=28]Smite Hex[/skill][skill Divine=28]Smite Condition[/skill][skill Divine=28]Reversal of Damage[/skill]
12+1+1 = 28 Divine with SB = 90 Healing.

Can turn into damage dealing healer, just fill rest of the slots with something like e-managment and more target ally -smiting spells.
I'm NOT saying it's the best possiple offensive healer build out there, or even viable build at all.

But something like can be nice change from the normal healing and against undeads it can even be viable.

Add divine boon, castigation signet and defender's zeal, and it becomes a very powerful build.
